Freedom Camping

There are two designated areas of the Park available for Freedom Camping. Please check the Alerts Page for any closure updates.

Freedom Camping Area

A Penny (previously KiwiCash) facility located in the main Freedom Camping area of the Park. Digital keys to access the showers, cooking facilities, electric charging points and drinking water can be purchased from all Western Bay of Plenty District Council offices and other local retailers, as noted on the Penny Website. Please note that keys are not available at TECT Park and need be purchased BEFORE arrival. Please see the Penny Website for further information. Access to the public toilets is free.

For further information on Freedom Camping, please view the Western Bay of Plenty District Council - Freedom Camping Bylaw 2019. There are two designated areas of the Park available for Freedom Camping, as shown on the Interactive Map.

You can Freedom Camp in a self-contained vehicle at the equestrian car park and the main camping area by the KiwiCamp facility, for a maximum of three nights during any four week period. Tenting is permitted at the main camping area, with each tenting request requiring prior approval from Park Staff, with a maximum of two nights in any four week period. Dogs are to remain leashed at all times.

Please note that gravel has been added recently to the accessways and parking in the main Freedom Camping area by the Penny (previously KiwiCamp) facility. Please keep vehicles off the grassed areas.
