About the Park

TECT Park is an award-winning taonga (treasure) in the Western Bay of Plenty.

It hosts many user groups who meet here. From shooters to paintball, motocross, model aircraft, four-wheel drive vehicles and beekeeping, we have something for everyone. These clubs manage their own facilities; if you're keen to learn more, get in touch with the clubs.

The park offers something for everyone, group members or not. Our amazing walking and cycling tracks are open to all.

Keen to come and play? Your options are limitless. With plenty of room to roam, you can walk for miles - and so can your dogs. Take in nature as you stroll, and you might even spot some glow-worms in the historic Te Rerenga tunnel.

If walking's not for you, how about a ride? There are spaces to use mountain bikes, bridle trails to ride horses, and tracks to ride motorbikes too.

Consider yourself a daredevil? Try the Adrenalin Forest, a commercial high-wire adventure course. It's up to you how high you go, and how fast you get your heart pumping! Check it out it here.

Want to meet people here? We've got a classroom style Arrival Centre, complete with scenic view and sheltered tree glade, which you can hire for park-related activities. An electric BBQ is available too and we've got plenty of wharepaku (toilets) located around the park.

Love it so much you want to stay? You can freedom camp at TECT Park. You must pre-purchase a Penny digital key tag (previously KiwiCash) for the facilities before you arrive.

We're proud of what's in our backyard, and we hope you are too! TECT Park was jointly purchased in 2004 by Western Bay of Plenty District Council and Tauranga City Council, with the support of naming rights sponsor TECT (Tauranga Energy Consumer Trust) and Bay Trust.

It spans a whopping 1650 hectares, and it's a much-loved space for people to come and play.

Since the park's opening in 2010, it has been recognised in the Green Flag awards for several years running. The awards acknowledge parks and greenspaces that set the benchmark for outdoor spaces and TECT Park flies its Green Flag proudly. But the accolades don't stop there - the park earned a place in the Top 10 International People's Choice for Green Flag parks in February 2022.

There's so much to do at TECT Park; come make your own fun!
